Vertigo and balance assessment
Vertigo is a feeling of being off balance and you might feel like you are spinning, or that the world around you is spinning. It may also be accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, abnormal eye movements, headaches, sweating or ringing in the ears.
To identify the cause of vertigo and treatment, if necessary, Strauss Audiology also specialises in giving balance evaluations. A bedside examination of balance and vertigo is designed to establish the integrity of the balance organ as well as the pathways connected to it. This includes proprioception, vision and somatosensory pathways. The tests are performed in a comfortable environment and the results are discussed in detail.
MANAGEMENT OF VERTIGO
As vertigo can influence quality of life to a great degree, the management strategy is focused on the individual’s specific needs.
Balance rehabilitation is an ongoing therapy that may help to minimise or relieve symptoms of dizziness, as well as partially or fully resolve balance problems. This therapy works well for individuals whose dizziness is caused by head movement, motion sensitivity or certain positions. In some instances, you may also be referred for ongoing rehabilitation.
